…Austria: trade sector negotiates work on Saturday in exchange for “super weekends”
The Commission set up earlier this year by the trade social partners to negotiate the issue of allowing work on Saturday presented, on Monday, July 8 in Vienna, a compromise which makes both parties fully happy. Starting on September 1, 2013, employees may, instead of working up to 2 Saturdays a month, work as many Saturdays as they please. In return, they get 5 3-day “super weekends” per semester. Businesses that want to adopt this system will have to get their WC’s consent.
