On 29 June twenty-three leading ready-to-wear fashion brands together with the IndustriALL and Uni Global Union organizations signed a new safety agreement covering Bangladeshi garment factories.
The text of the agreement relies on the first agreement of this type that was signed in May 2013 in the aftermath of the Dhaka, Rana Plaza disaster where a factory collapsed causing more than 1,000 workers’ lives ad injuring more than 2,500 others.
Primark, H&M, Zara, just to mention a few. This new agreement only comes into effect when the initial agreement expires in May 2018. It will run for three years and includes scope for a one-year further extension. From amongst the signatories...
