On Tuesday 21 November Bangladesh’s government announced it was looking to relax its labor law so as to facilitate the establishment of trade unions in factories. “The laws will be amended in line with both the national interest and EU fixed conditions in so far as the EU is out largest clothing importer,” the government explained.
EU recommendations being taken into account. On 21 November, Bangladesh’s Minister for Justice and Parliamentary Affaires, Anisul Hug, stated that the country would be following EU recommendations as part of its reforms to the labour law and the law on special economic areas. “We arrived at a positive conclusion during our meeting with the stakeholders and the decision will be communicated to the Prime Minister as well as to the International Labour Conference expert committee members,” declare
