On December 21, trade unions and employers signed an agreement on night work in the e-commerce industry. The government had asked social partners to engage in negotiations on the issue, without which it would use legislative means to authorise night time work in the sector. After a final stage of conciliation, the agreement was signed; it defines the subjects which must be discussed as part of a company agreement or workplace rule to regulate night work.
As part of the digital component of the Belgian government’s programme, the coalition has focused on e-commerce and the fact that prohibiting night work in this area could be a hindrance to development.
