A second step was made in the issue of the single status. After the social partners reached a compromise in July, the Council of Ministers approved the bill on Friday, September 27. The text is very close to the compromise adopted this summer but the social partners are still tense. Starting on January 1, 2014, the waiting day (unpaid first day of sick leave) will disappear and workers and employees will have the same notice regulations. Finally, it was agreed that the social partners would negotiate, within the National Labor Council and before October 31, 2013, a collective agreement concerning the grounds for layoff. (Ref. 130573)
