Belgium: draft banking collective agreement 2011-2012

Buying power.  The political unrest Belgium is going through as well as turmoil in the euro area didn’t make bargaining easy in the banking sector.  The economic and financial crisis had an impact on banks’ results, while rating agencies threatened to lower the grade of some financial establishments.  In this context, employers in the Febelfin organization were tough on the negotiation of workers’ buying power.  In the end, they agreed with union representatives (CNE, Setca and CGSLB) on a €200 bonus in the form of eco-checks until the end of 2011.  This bonus can take on another form, negotiated at company level.  For workers paid with the sectoral scales, the draft agreement provides for a permanent gross €15 increase on July 1, 2012.  Those who earn more than this scale will get a recurrent €200 bonus in the form of eco-checks or other benefits negotiated at company level.
