After debating for 27 years, the social partners finally reached an agreement in the afternoon on July 5 on the sensitive issue of the single status for blue-collar and white-collar workers. It meets the Constitutional Court’s demand to get rid of discrimination that arises from the layoff notice and waiting day (the first day of sick leave, which isn’t compensated for blue-collar workers). The agreement provides for gradual standardization. (Ref. 130458)
Last-chance agreement. Monday, July 8 was the deadline the Constitutional Court set to end discrimination between blue-collar and white-collar workers. Since they couldn’t agree, in mid-June, they turned to the government and Minister of Employment, Monica de Coninck (sp.a), who then took part in the negotiations that led, after a 30-hour closed-door meeting, to a “historical compromise.”
