On Friday 15 July Belgium’s Labor Minister Kris Peeters sent the social partners two pieces of draft legislation. The government wants employers and unions to discuss the texts on ‘feasible work’ and ‘manageable work’ before they proceed for government approval.
Two pieces of legislation. In April, Minister Peeters had unveiled his intentions (c.f. article No. 9599) and the text sent to the social partners on Friday 15 July fully reflected the same. According to reports in the Belgian press, the draft legislation will allow a company to unilaterally implement a system of annualized working time (based on the current 38 hour average working week).
