The Federal Minister of Employment, Labor and Social Consultation published, on May 22, 2008, the partial results (89%) of the social elections held between May 5 and May 18 allowing employees to elect their representatives for the works councils and the committee for prevention and protection at the workplace. This has not shattered the union landscape in Belgium with the CSC recording a comfortable lead over the socialist confederation FGTB. (Ref. 080421)
After this test on union audience held in up to 6.500 firms, the best score was by the CSC with 52.9% of the ballot (+ 0.6% compared to the 2004 elections) for works councils, and 53.9% (+0.1%) for the committee for prevention and protection at the workplace (CPPT). The CSC won 57.1% of seats in works councils (61.5% in the Flemish region) and 59.6% in CPPTs (65.2% in the Flemish region).
