Over the past five years, the number of sexual harassment complaints lodged with the Public Ministry of Labour (MPT) has increased by 63.7%. In order to combat and prevent this practice, which mostly affects women, Brazil passed a law introducing changes to the Labour Code in this area. Going forward, internal accident prevention committees are to be in charge of moral and sexual harassment issues in a company.
Law 14.457/2022 (Article 23), passed in September 2022, also known as the Emprego + Mulheres (Employment and Women) programme to promote a better working environment for women, now requires companies to adopt prevention policies tackling ‘sexual harassment and other forms of violence in the workplace’, and to train employees on this subject.
