During an assembly organised by the CUT, Brazil’s Unified Workers’ Central, which brought together trade unions from various sectors, the principle and terms of a so-called ‘safeguard clause’ were approved by participants. Held on 24 October, the assembly was attended by unions representing close to 14,000 workers in the region of São Paulo.
Wagner Santana, who heads up the São Paulo regional branch of the CUT, says the use of a safeguard clause is “crucial” to ensuring protection from the effects of the “law on sub-contracting and the labour reform”, which was voted in July.
