The number of people in Brazil aged between 50 and 64 that are in work has increased by 30% over the period between 2010 and 2015. Meanwhile the number of workers aged 65 and over has also increased to above pre-economic crisis levels. The increase that has been observed in the latter age bracket is even more remarkable, rising by 58.8%.
The numbers were published last week by the Brazilian employment ministry in a social information report (Relação Anual de Informações Sociais, or Rais). They refer to workers in the formal sector that have a work permit (carteira assinada), and indicate that people in Brazil are tending to retire later.
