On December 16 the Canadian Senate adopted a law that modifies other laws governing union recognition in federally regulated activities including telecommunications and rail and air transport. On December 16 the Employees’ Voting Rights Act was adopted. It modifies the union certification and decertification process in certain sectors (telecommunications, transport and others). This law marks another stage in the cooling relations between the unions and Stephen Harper’s government.
