Corporate practices: Danish companies Novo Nordisk and Novozymes implement policies to raise female participation at senior management

On March 08, International Women’s Day, the daily publication Berlingke Tidende examined  the steps being  taken by both Novo Nordisk and Novozymes* to bring more females into management positions. Last year Novo Nordisk  succeeded in women  having 34% of new senior management level positions whilst Novozymes recorded an equivalent 42%. Yet while both companies have chosen very different approaches they do see the need to change both mentalities and the ‘male culture’ that is symptomatic  at management level.

Berlingke Tidende interviewed both companies on how they intended to raise female participation at senior management. Both companies stressed the importance of role models. Successful senior females could inspire other women to aspire to higher positions (c.f. article No. 080694). Novozymes has set numerical targets for women to attain at the various levels up the hierarchy where the percentage of female nominations to posts reflects the percentage of females being recruited.
