The idea of giving businesses health certifications dates back to 2003 and came from the leader of SEKO (sectoral union in services and communication), Janne Rudén. She pointed out that businesses’ only priorities were economic, notably with stock exchange prices as their main concern. She notably said that clear and sensible rules already existed in terms of working environment but that employers failed to comply with them. Therefore, since there were environmental labels, why not create health labels? Certification could be a way for businesses to give priority to health at work and lessen the impact of medical problems. It is valid for 2 years, after which the company has to present a new case to prove that it still meets the requirements.
