In the Czech Republic, there has been increased strike activity these days. On June 9, teachers held a strike, claiming for higher salaries to compensate for inflation. For tomorrow, June 24, the CMKOS - the largest trade union in the country - called for a one-hour strike, the biggest in fifteen years. The strike is aimed against the negative effects of government reforms, especially the proposed pension reform and health care reform. Public transportation and hospitals should be mostly affected. The Bohemian-Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions (CMKOS – 32 trade unions bringing together approximately 540.000 employees) declared this strike. The Independent Unions’ Association (ASO), the country’s second largest union (15 member unions comprising some 250.000 workers), announced that it will join the strike.
