On 22 November, the Chamber of Deputies approved a draft amendment aimed at boosting the employment of people with disabilities. The bill seeks to increase the direct recruitment of disabled people by companies by means of financial incentives. It also introduces the practice of "naming and shaming" to combat undeclared work.
At present, employers with more than 25 employees are required to meet a quota of 4% for people with disabilities. There are three ways in which they can meet their obligation: employing disabled people directly, subcontracting them to specially adapted companies, or paying a financial contribution equal to 2.5 times the average monthly salary of each disabled person they should be employing. These three options can be combined and are currently used equally.
