In what is the third agreement to be struck in under two years, the Danish government and the social partners have concluded a new tri-partite agreement that aims to convince both businesses and workers alike of the usefulness of lifelong learning throughout the length of employees’ careers. “It is important for Denmark’s future that together we assume our responsibilities and find solutions so that Denmark is better prepared for a labor market where developing competences and the ability to change are increasingly being demanded,” stated the Employment Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, while presenting the agreement on 29 October 2017. The agreement involves funding amounting to DKK 2.5 billion (€330 million) for the period 2018-2021
Heightened awareness. Following the 2016 tri-partite agreement on youth training (see our article 9808), a group of experts was designated to examine the current system of lifelong training for adults (called VEU – Voksen of Efteruddannelsesindsatsen – Adults education and vocational training), and it submitted a report to the Danish Parliament at the end of May 2017.
