The transposition of the European directive on pay transparency into French law is entering a decisive phase. The Minister of Labour, Jean-Pierre Farandou, wants to present the bill to Parliament before the summer, following consultations with the social partners, which are due to be completed by the end of January.
Will France meet the European deadline? EU Member States have until 7 June 2026 to transpose the Pay Transparency Directive (2023/970). It is intended to strengthen the application of the principle of equal pay for women and men for the same work or work of equal value, by giving employees the right to access information and granting new prerogatives to employee representatives. In France, however, work has fallen behind schedule. Consultations between the Ministry of Labour and the social partners were interrupted for several months due to political instability, before resuming only on 15 January this year, after an initial meeting held on 21 May 2025.
