On April 10, the government presented its draft reform of international recruitment aiming to strengthen the country’s attractiveness and Danish businesses’ competitiveness, by making it easier to quickly recruit foreign professionals and improving the country’s hosting tradition. Measures include administrative simplification, the creation of a fund to support businesses working to keep these employees, as well as tougher controls over foreign workers’ conditions and pay, making sure that they comply with national laws.
According to international estimates, Denmark ranks 19th in terms of appeal and retention of highly skilled foreign workers. However, it ranks 3rd (out of 103) in terms of possible appeal. Therefore, the government wants to improve its global ranking for highly skilled workers, with a total reform of international recruitment presented on April 10.
