Denmark: pending reform of the staff representation structures in charge of safety at work to adapt them to the needs of modern businesses

“More flexible rules, adapted to modern businesses’ everyday” and to a modern labor market for representation structures in charge of health and safety at work: this is how Labor Minister Inger Støjberg presented her draft reform of the Working Environment Act (arbejdsmiljøloven), which hasn’t been subject to any major amendments since it came into force in 1977. Presented in Parliament on February 10, this reform is based on the recommendations of the agreement signed in April 2009 (see our dispatch No. 090573) between the social partners and the labor inspectorate (Arbejdstilsynet). A first part should enter into force on April 26 and the rest on October 1.
