In the first quarter of 2009, the number of voluntary early retirements dropped of 6,900 units compared with the first quarter of 2008, whereas the number of jobseekers in the active population doubled over the same period. Several reasons maintain seniors at work: the economic motivation and increased competencies from the employers. Commentators also think that the new law against age discrimination, enforced in January, is a factor. (Ref. 090732)
