Flights on March 26 from Ryanair’s new Copenhagen route risk being grounded. The Irish airline has refused to sign a collective agreement with the National Union of Service Employees (Serviceforbundet) compelling Serviceforbundet to issue the airline with a strike notice. All the LO (largest union confederation in Denmark) federations may follow suit in what is expected to be an unprecedented conflict for both the low cost airline and the union that plays an important role in maintaining the Danish social model.
“Ryanair states that it does not come under Danish law”, LO contests this because Ryanair has a base in Denmark. The confederation also says it will bring a court action. At present we are asking the labor tribunal to validate the legitimacy of the conflict as stated by Serviceforbundet,” explained Peter Nisbeth, LO’s legal team member on February 03, 2015.
