A study by the Global Deal business network presented on 29 April compares the situation of employees aged over 50 by company in six countries with identical working conditions, highlighting various factors influencing their employment rate. While the legal retirement age is currently at the heart of the debate in France, this international comparison shows that it is not the only factor to be taken into consideration.
Several factors aside from the legal retirement age have a decisive influence on the employment rate of people over 50, such as the level of replacement income (pension, unemployment benefit prior to retirement), the employment status of spouses and labour shortages.
