The ETUC’s new leader, elected during its Paris Congress that comes to a close on 02 October 2015 has a diary brimming with ambitious tasks; in short, change the current course of the economy. In order to succeed, the affiliated organizations defined what the new leader himself called a “highly structured strategy” including promoting investment in employment creation opportunities, improving salaries, and restoring both dialogue at national and European levels and the European Social Model.
- How would you sum up the political direction underpinning the work program adopted by the Congress?
Luca Visentini. The first priority for us is boosting economic growth and coming out from the crisis because if we don’t, we cannot create jobs, tackle unemployment, defend the European social model, restore any kind of social protection, or restore any kind of social rights. So, growth first of all. To achieve this we need concrete proposals and for that our work program mentions two pillars:
