Rapidly matured thanks to REACH, the European social dialogue in the chemical sector - bringing together the employers' organization ECEG and the EMCEF union federation - is now tackling new issues : industrial policy, health and safety or lifelong training are on the agenda of the social dialogue committee in this sector for 2007/2008. At their annual meeting on November 8 and 9, the social partners – European employers in chemicals (ECEG) and the European union federation of workers in the mining, chemicals and energy (EMCEF) – worked out an agenda establishing three work groups on:
- industrial policy and energy policy, issues on which “social partners have their say”, explained Jean Pelin, chairman of the ECEG and general director of the chemical industries union ( UIC), the French employers association;
- health and safety;
