The Commission just announced the withdrawal of the maternity leave directive draft directive. It will propose new initiatives in the 2016 Work Programme, « aiming to meet the objectives in a more effective way. »

Only a week ago, in a letter sent to Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament, Frans Timmermans, first vice-president of the European Commission in charge of “Better regulation” confirmed that the draft directive would be dropped but only after measures to improve working parents’ rights had been defined (see article n°9156).
