The Labour Migration Platform, which was announced in April last year as part of the EU’s Pact on Migration and Asylum, met for the first time in Brussels on 10 January. The meeting was hosted by the European Commission, which is prioritising the issue of skills this year. According to the EU’s executive body, the platform has been set up to advance labour migration from third countries to the EU and to “ensure that it is well-managed and targeted to where the labour and skills needs are”....
EU: Commission looks at labour migration to address staff shortages
On 10 January, the European Commission convened a new body tasked with developing bloc-wide policy for labour migration at a time when demand for workers and skills is at an all-time high. At the same time, several EU member states are launching reforms to address labour shortages.
