EU: Council seeks to limit the regulation of traineeships

On 19 June, member states adopted a negotiating mandate on last year’s proposed directive to combat disguised employment in the context of traineeships. It relaxes the framework devised by the European Commission by removing three of the six criteria used to determine whether a traineeship constitutes a disguised employment relationship, including the requirement for at least one previous work experience and the proportion of trainees in a company.
