European Union labour ministers are to meet on 12 June, under the Swedish presidency of the Council of the EU, to adopt their position on the proposed directive on platform work. Should a position be adopted, negotiations between co-legislators to reach a compromise will be based on texts that differ significantly. According to a preparatory text seen by mind RH, a majority of member states are proposing a non-mandatory presumption of employment.

In the Brussels microcosm, doubts remain. Will a qualified majority be found on 12 June at the Employment and Social Policy Council to open negotiations as quickly as possible? If no such majority emerges, the window of opportunity will be narrowed significantly as the work of the Parliament closes at the beginning of 2024 before the European elections in June.
