EU: divisions remain within the European Council over the posting of workers

The European Council is not expected to take a formal stance on the posting of workers before 23 October 2017. Thus was the outcome of the meeting between the various Employment and Social Affairs Ministers that was held in Luxembourg on 15 June. Thwarted by a lack of progress over recent weeks the Maltese presidency resigned itself to just presenting an account of the discussions without pushing for the vote that it had been forecasting some weeks ago. This change in strategy can be explained especially by the tougher position taken by French President Emmanuel Macron.
