The European Commission approved, on January 30, 2008, the 2.4 million euros requested by Portugal for assistance under the European Globalisation adjustment Fund (EGF) for the 1,549 workers dismissed by Opel, Johnson Controls and Alcoa Fujikura. (Ref. 080078)
The request introduced by the Portuguese government concerns 1.549 dismissals in three companies which decided to close their plants in Portugal. Alcoa Fujikura is an electrical component manufacturer, Opel Portugal, a truck assembly plant and Johnson Controls, an auto seat overlay producer.
