At a time when European member states remain divided over the status of platform workers, the European Parliament is favouring a tightening of regulation in the area, by further bolstering the presumption of salaried status proposed by the European Commission. In addition, the report approved by the Parliament on 2 February seeks new transparency obligations on data and algorithms.
Since being unveiled by the European Commission in December 2021, the proposal for a directive on the presumption of salaried status for delivery workers or drivers deemed to be in “false” or “bogus” self-employment has been hindered by disagreements between EU member states.
