EU: European Parliament urges European Commission to ban unpaid internships

On 14 June the European Parliament overwhelmingly voted in favour (404–78, 130 abstentions) of an own-initiative report on quality internships. The text covers voluntary traineeships, traineeships for people struggling to secure employment, and traineeships that must be validated as part of a vocational training course. In it the MEPs urge the European Commission to introduce mandatory written agreements that set out an internship’s educational objectives, remuneration, and duration. They call
