On 20 September Europe’s Ministers backed the establishment of national productivity boards. The social partners however remain divided on the issue. On the whole employers are satisfied with the final outcome whilst union bodies fear that they will lead to further austerity.
20 March 2018 is the deadline for all the EU Member States to have established their individual independent national productivity boards. These structures are to be put in place to diagnose and analyze the productivity and competitiveness developments and policies of the EU Member States. These tasks were initially put forward in a European Commission recommendation in October 2015, which the EU Member States backed on 20 September 2016.
