While the European Commission is thinking about what measures to take in terms of the fight against discrimination in its social package (see our article No. 080369), which is now planned for July 2, the European Parliament established a report, presented by British MEP Elizabeth Lynne and adopted on May 20, 2008, asking for a more comprehensive body of legislation against discrimination. MEPs are concerned about “deficiencies in the transposition and implementation of Directives 2000/43/EC and of Directive 2000/78/EC by some Member States.” They want the Commission “to monitor carefully the transposition” of these directives, to “continue to put pressure on the Member States” and to issue “interpretive guidelines” to ensure “the full and correct implementation” of these texts.
