EU: the Committee on Employment of the European Parliament made major amendments to the draft revision of the EWC directive

Gathered for an extraordinary session on the night of November 17, MEPs from the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs adopted a report on the revision of the EWC directive, straying from the draft as amended and supported by the European social partners. This makes things harder for the French presidency which must carry on with its efforts in hopes of a permanent adoption of the text during the Council of Ministers on December 16. (Ref. 080902)

Many amendments were adopted. Most MEPs agree that the revision of the EWC directive must succeed during the French presidency. However, many of them say that it should not be at the expense of the few improvements presented by the European Commission, supported and amended by the European social partners (see our dispatch No. 080643).
