The committee of the European metalworkers' federation (EMF) Information and Communication Technologies sector took place for the first time since last June's Congress (see our story 070483) in order to organize its work program for the new mandate. Aware of the role this sector plays in the economy and in the development of employment as well as the restructurings it endures today, the committee plans on acting of the field of industrial policy, European works' council and corporate governance. ICT is strongly embedded in the development of other sectors, highlighted the work program of the EMF ICT committee which gathered on October 2. At the same time, “the sector itself is high in challenges like the management of change, employment, training and education, as well as trade union density in the sector.” The mission set by the committee thus goes towards two directions :
- develop ICTs to develop economy and employment in other sectors,
