The European Commission's DG "Employment and Social Affairs" is organizing, on October 17 and 18, 2007, a "restructuring forum" dedicated to the automotive industry. This first forum, dedicated to a sector which represents 2 millions of direct jobs and 10 millions of indirect jobs, could lead to the adoption, by the European social partners and the Commission, of a declaration in favour of a "European partnership to anticipate change in the automotive sector". The forum will be opened by Vladimir Spidla, the European Commissioner in charge of Employment and Social Affairs, as well as by his counterpart in charge of Business and Industry, Günter Verheugen. The latter is also going to close the works, thus giving more weight to the forum’s conclusions. This event will be devoted to setting up change foreseeing in a sector which is subject to many restrictions.
