The European Commission approved two new applications for assistance to the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), those introduced by Germany and Finland to help respectively cell phone manufacturers BenQ and accessories manufacturers Perlos. France had been the first country to get this fund's support for Renault's and PSA's subcontractors. (Ref. 070796)
This Fund, aimed at supporting globalization’s victims by paying for reclassification and training actions (see our strory No. 070001), is going to help 4.000 employees who lost their job after relocations – most of the time towards Asia – in the production of mobile phones and their accessories :
- BenQ’s request concerns two German factories belonging to the Taiwanese manufacturer. In December 2006, BenQ decided not to provide financial help to its two subsidiaries, thus causing a mass layoff
