Gerard Larcher's Flexicurity Mission rendered its report during the Council on Employment and Social Affairs of December 17. This report follows the communication of the European Commission entitled: "Towards Common Principles of Flexicurity: More and better jobs through flexibility and security." The goal of the mission was to study, via a trip through Europe, concrete cases of flexicurity. It traveled to France, Poland, Sweden, Finland and Spain. (Ref. 081043)
Flexicurity is a key concept for the European Employment Strategy, and one of the pillars of the Lisbon Strategy. The report presented on December 17 shows that common flexicurity principles are not homogeneous. These principles concern, among others “the reduction of the segmentation of the labor market, the need for a climate of trust between the social partners, and the search for balance between the rights and responsibilities of employers, workers, jobseekers and public powers.” Every Memb
