On 07 December the European Commission presented its proposals for a new aviation policy. However much to the disappointment of the unions, no legislative proposals were put forward to protect the sector’s extremely mobile workers or address the new forms of atypical work being carried out. In spite of this the new policy does contain a ‘social agenda’ that is being put to the sector’s European social partners.
The strategy, presented by the European Commission on 07 December via both a Communication document and a Proposal for a regulation on rules over European civil aviation and safety, aims to “place the EU a leading player in international aviation, whilst guaranteeing a level playing field.” Exploiting new growing markets, completing the single sky project, and updating security rules feature amongst the policy’s priorities.
