The agreement that has been struck in Finland’s construction sector marks the end of a period of negotiations, in progress since the summer of 2017, over the main collective agreements covering the bulk of the country’s economy. Despite attempts by employers to freeze wages and to go back on rules governing working hours in certain sectors, negotiations have more or less followed the same pattern and yielded similar results across sectors.
Deal reached in the construction sector. It was not until 9 May 2018, one day ahead of a lock-out planned by employers in the construction industry, that an agreement was reached and it only differs slightly from those struck in other sectors.
