Social partners in France (three trade union federations and all employers' organizations) signed Thursday 9th March, an inter-professional agreement designed to increase the employment rate of people aged 55-64, which currently stands as 37%. The inter-professional agreement, signed Thursday 9th March, concluded a negotiation round on the topic of “old workers and employment” . The activity rate for “senior” workers in France is very low, around 37%, and this triggers big problems: for these workers, for the government, and for pensions.
The aim is to increase this rate to 50% in 2010. The main measure, in order to reach this number, is the creation of a specific fixed-term contract for people over 57, who have been unemployed...
