France: confrontation and social transformation for a CGT that is repositioning contest at the heart of its action

Since 18 April, and at 120 years of age, the CGT union confederation held its 51st Congress in Marseille, France. Delegates voted for a call to strike on 28 April (and perhaps beyond) in protest at the bill that reforms the labor code. In so far as the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) is placing the forceful defense of causes and contestation at the centre of its priorities for the next  years, it would have been nonsensical had the organization not decided upon such a course of action.

A strike calling for the bill that reforms the labor code to be withdrawn and building propositions and claims. Against this backdrop, delegates taking part in the CGT Congress being held this week in Marseille will leave the Congress galvanized for action.
