France: government publishes labour law reforms

On Saturday 23 September, the French government published a series of labour law reforms, to be enacted via five ordonnances (ordinances). The reforms were adopted at the end of last week by the Council of Ministers, with twenty implementation decrees due to be published by 31 December. As such, the reforms are set to be implemented as of 1 January 2018.

The ordinances that were ultimately adopted do not differ substantially from those that were presented on 31 August (see article n°10330 to re-read our piece on the reforms).

Following two days of protests (12 and 21 September), which were not as successful as had been expected, the CGT (General Confederation of Labour) invited other trade union organisations to organise another day of joint action.
