France: PSA Sevelnord agreement revives debate on competitiveness agreements

On July 12, PSA Peugeot Citroën announced 8,000 job cuts across the country and the closing of the Aulnay site (Seine-Saint-Denis), which employs 3,000 people.  For the Sevelnord plant in Hordain (North), the Group tried to be more optimistic.  On July 23, it announced a new partnership with Toyota, the Japanese group.  On July 26, it announced an agreement on the adjustment of working conditions, the prorogation of employment and development.  These were two prerequisites for the management to maintain the Sevelnord site open.  The site, where 2,800 people make the Peugeot 807 and Citroën C8 minivans as well as the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy and Fiat Scudo commercial vehicles, has been on the hot seat since 2011, when the Italian group, Fiat, announced that it was leaving.  PSA has a partnership with Fiat.
