France: Saint-Gobain signs new agreement on diversity

Sensitive urban zones.  This first axis developed in the agreement is the “commitment to an active policy supporting the integration, in the Group’s undertakings, and maintaining ailing profiles on the employment market.”  This means people from sensitive urban zones (Zone urbaine sensible, ZUS, is a territory defined by the French public authorities to be the target of the town's policy regarding social cohesion).  Here, the agreement aims to improve businesses’ appeal to dual training systems. To promote diversity, the agreement plans to mobilize specialized networks, namely reference associations such as “100 Chances 100 Emplois” (100 chances, 100 jobs) or “Nos quartiers ont des Talents” (Our communities have got talents).  The Group will also support employees in getting or improving basic skills – reading, writing, counting…, “aiming for personal and social development as well as the preservation of their potential for career advancement.”  Within the framework of this commitment to fight illiteracy, businesses will have to mobilize several tools, with a collective or individual approach, to answer the needs expressed by employees who wish to benefit from it.
