These agreements, which the federal government added to the legislative framework, led to the lowest erosion of employment during a recession in Germany. Earlier this year, he also launched a debate within his organization about the need to extend unions’ field of action to more political areas (see our dispatch No. 110051), when laws directly or indirectly affecting working conditions, for instance the increase in retirement age, appear incomplete or reactionary.
