In line with recent sector and company level negotiations that indicate how Germany’s workers are seeking ways to achieve a better work-life balance, Deutsche Post’s (DP) 130,000 employees, who approved the new agreement with a sweeping majority, will for the first time have the possibility of choosing between salary increases or additional free time. The agreement runs for 28 months and expires on 31 May 2020. In it salary increases are to be accorded in two stages with the first being a +3% rise on 01 October 2018 and the second being a +2.1% rise on 01 October 2019.
High consultation participation rate. On 10 April, following a large consultation with DP employees, who are also members of the Verdi services union, the Verdi employee committee gave the green light to the collective agreement that DP management put forward on 28 February. Between 12 March and 06 April, no less than 50,647 unionized employees took part in the consultation phase that the service union organized on the DP management’s proposed agreement.
